The Ziemer Z8 laser creates a precise disc-shaped piece of corneal tissue (the lenticule) and a tiny ~2mm incision — all within the cornea, in about 30 seconds.
The surgeon gently removes the lenticule through the small incision. No flap is created. Minimal stress to the cornea. The upper corneal layers are barely disturbed.

What exactly is the CLEAR procedure and how does it differ from LASIK?
CLEAR — Corneal Lenticule Extraction for Advanced Refractive Correction — is the next generation of lenticule-based laser vision correction developed by Ziemer Ophthalmic Systems. Unlike LASIK, which cuts a corneal flap and applies a separate excimer laser beneath it, CLEAR uses a single laser (the Ziemer Femto LDV Z8) to create a disc of tissue (lenticule) inside the cornea and removes it through a tiny 2mm incision. No flap is created at any stage. This preserves significantly more corneal integrity, reduces dry eye risk, and enables a more comfortable recovery.
Is LASIK or CLEAR surgery permanent?
Yes. Both procedures permanently reshape the cornea to correct the refractive error present at the time of surgery. In the vast majority of cases the correction is stable for life. Natural age-related changes like presbyopia after 40 are a separate phenomenon unrelated to the surgery. Is surgery painful? What will I feel?

Patients with high myopia, thin corneas, or other factors making laser correction unsuitable are typically excellent candidates for ICL (Implantable Collamer Lens) surgery. ICL can safely correct prescriptions up to –20D and beyond — often delivering the crispest possible visual quality. When can I return to work and normal activities after CLEAR?
Most patients return to desk work within 24–48 hours. Visual acuity is typically very good one to two days after surgery and stabilises within one week.
